Inspection Specifications

1. All exhibitors must first REGISTER their horse with AWS and the owner must be a current member. Submit all required forms with the Inspection Entry form & fees at least 15 days prior to the inspection or be subject to Rush penalties per horse.

2. The Inspection sign-up is between 7-9 a.m. depending on flight schedules and number of entries. The organizer will know the start time 1 week prior to inspection. The horses are shown in age order, weanlings first, usually. Stallions may be shown first, if the organizer has requested prior to the inspection and everyone is notified. All exhibitors are expected to arrive at sign-up time and learn from the AWS open, educational format. No Presentation Times will be provided.

3. The triangle is aproximately 80 x 100 x 80 feet. The handler leads the horse around the perimeter of the triangle clockwise at the walk & trot as directed. Weanlings, Yearlings and Two year olds are also shown at liberty. The horse is presented at the triangle apex for conformation judging.

4. The Inspectors may excuse any unruly or unsafe horse, whose actions threaten to endanger exhibitors, volunteers or officials.

5. A horse may be excused for unsoundness at the inspectors discretion and encouraged to be re-inspected at a later time. All horses may be re-inspected. Their highest score will always be maintained. Bloodlines and/or competition history may not be openly discussed until after scores have been completed.

6. Braiding is optional, but encouraged for a better view of the neck.

7. Bridles are mandatory for Two year olds and older. A bridle shall consist of any USEF permitted Dressage snaffle bit with a headstall and a throatlatch. Nosebands are optional. A split or single chain with a lead may be used in addition or instead of two reins.

8. Bandages or boots of any kind are forbidden during the inspection.

9. The handler and/or their assistant may each carry only one effective, humane whip to use as an aid, but not to spook the horse. No snapping of whips. Bags or additional devices are not allowed.

10. Conservative attire is recommended for the handler. The handler's attire should be neutral and contrast with the color of the horse, i.e. handler wears beige or white, as most horses have darker colors. Safe running shoes are highly recommended.

11. Questions are permitted and encouraged from exhibitors and/or spectators after the scoring of a horse is completed. Bloodlines may also be asked after the scoring for educational purposes.

12. Brandings are optionally offered to those horses that have qualified after the awards ceremony.

13. Horses with a score a 67% or higher qualify to be branded. Branding fees are paid at the inspection.

14. "Supreme" designated horses may be branded for free.

15. Horses must score a 62% or higher to satisfy the performance requirement for official registration certificates. The horse may also satisfy this performance requirement six other ways. All horses may be re-inspected. Their highest score will always be recorded. ( See all seven possible ways "Registration Requirements". ).

16. Any score 5.0 or less disqualifies the horse from medals or the AWS "Approved for Breeding" status.

17. All awards are presented after all horses are inspected and scores recorded. Participants are encouraged to devote the entire day to the education of themselves and for their horses. Leave your Ego at the gate!.
