Inspections(2-28-08)
The Inspections and Branding The first and most important task before inspection is to complete the Registration Application (see above). The AWS inspections are for ONLY AWS registered, recorded or nominated horses and sport ponies. The owners of the AWS registered horses must also be current members to have their horses inspected. AWS inspections are offered throughout the year, coast to coast, in Canada and the USA. The American Warmblood Society focuses on an educational format at their inspections. Everyone is encouraged to participate and learn from each other. The AWS goal is to assist in the education of North American Breeders and Sport Horse/Pony selectors by encouraging the development of the most talented, quality sport horses/ponies. Recorded horses are horses that have been previously registered with another association. Nominated horses are 100% hot-bloods (Arabians or Thoroughbreds) or 100% cold-bloods (drafts). All AWS horses qualify for the same benefits. Horses may satisfy performance requirements seven different ways (Registration Requirements see above). The AWS Inspections are only one of these seven ways to satisfy the performance requirement. There are no time restrictions for satisfying the performance requirements. All scoring criteria and directives are listed on the Score Sheets shown above. Click on the Score Sheets for Young Horses or Mature Horses for details. The horse/pony may be any age for registration and inspection. However, the AWS does recommend that the foal be at least three weeks old. The score designations of Certified, Red Preferred, Blue Preferred or Supreme will be stamped on the Certificate of Registration (Nomination or Recorded). These designations are only awarded at the AWS Inspection. The Inspection calendar (see above) lists the AWS Inspections in your area. Certified inspection scores are scores of 62% (minimum) to satisfy AWS registration performance requirements and can be from any recognized Sport Horse Registry.
The Brand The Brand shows the capital "A" for North America, with a subtle "W" for warmblood. Over the "A" is a crown symbolizing nobility of the breed. The outline of the crown captures the entire "A" and "W", to indicate the bond and unity of American Warmbloods and symbolizes the new tradition. The emphasis is not "Warmblood", but rather the sport horse/pony of modern type. Sport horses/ponies must qualify to be branded with a minimum - 67% In-hand or AWS Inspection or equivalency in the AWS supported sports. The branding cost is $95.00 and is offered at all inspections. Supreme horses/ponies (80%) are offered the brand for free. |
