World Breeding Federation
of Sport Horses (WBFSH)
The World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) is a non profit federation of sport horse studbooks (associations) from around the world. For complete information go to www.wbfsh.org
The WBFSH generally promotes the common interest of its member studbooks and
acts as a representative body for the sport horse breeding sector.
The General Assembly meets annually and is attended by representatives of member organizations. It is the governing body of the Federation. The WBFSH has a board charged with the management of the Federation and an executive committee accountable to the Board. The Disciplinary Committee, the Board of Appeal and the Audit Committee are sub-committees of the Board that help ensure that good governance procedures are practiced.
Mission Statement
To promote and develop the sport horse breeding industry, to advance the objectives of member organizations and co-operation among member studbooks and the common interests of sport horse breeding worldwide.
Strategic Plan 2008 – 2012
Major Goals
1. Stimulate the development of sport horse breeding world wide.
2. Co-ordinate and stimulate co-operation among member studbooks.
3. Represent the common interests of the sport horse breeding world internationally.
4. Cooperate with other relevant organizations to promote horse breeding generally, to better integrate sport and breeding and to advance interests of member studbooks and individuals.
5. Be efficient and effective as an organization respecting good financial control, good governance and best practice in management.
Strategies to Achieve Goals
1. Organize meetings, conferences, seminars, workshops, etc.
2. Manage the sport horse ranking project in the three disciplines of Dressage Showjumping and Eventing and prizes for the leading breeders and studbooks.
3. Maintain a website to disseminate and share information.
4. Develop standardized ways for the transfer of data on horses.
5. Promote adoption of standardized numbering and identification methods for horses. E.g. the Unique Equine Life Number (UELN); information to be included on passports.
6. Continue with the Young Horse Championships in Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing.
7. Develop & further our close working relationship with the FEI.

The American Warmblood Society is a non-profit Horse Registry founded in 1983 and dedicated to talented Sport horses from the grass roots and through the highest levels. As one of the Full Members of the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH), the AWS promotes, represents, records and registers Horses for the Olympic Sports and Combined Driving worldwide and is actively involved with the issues of Breeding Selection, Performance Indexing, Research and continuing Education in the Sport Horse industry.
